Life Updates: The Marathon, The Cold, and The Frisbee Incident
So I got sick this week. Like, properly knocked out can’t leave bed sick.
My body finally said, “Enough with the pushing, buddy. Take a seat.” And honestly? I needed it.
Remember the marathon I mentioned last time? D-Day is coming up on the 18th May(it’s Half-marathon though), I was pumped to train hard this weekend but my body had other plans. Been down with a nasty cold for four days now. Hopefully I’ll be better by Monday.
Funny how life gives you what you need sometimes. I wasn’t letting myself rest, so my body forced me into it. I am feeling pathetic about the wasted time being sick but then this reminds the words from my loved one: “You’re not a robot.” So it’s okay to take some time off. Well sure, I guess?
Some quick wins:
- Went for a frisbee match (and broke my nose a bit 😅 but strangely breathing feels better now lol)
- Completed a 2.5Km run at 6.17min/km pace (previously it was 8.5min/km)
Once this cold fades away, I’m hitting a 5Km run to prep for the 21km marathon.
A Quick note
These newsletters will be hitting your inbox every Sunday. This way you’re power-packed for the week ahead, and it keeps me accountable too.
That “Millionaire Mindset” Thing
Just when I shared last week about the millionaire thing, Netflix recommended me to binge watch “Super Pumped” (the Uber series) and damn... it’s making me think. What does it really take? The guts, the risk appetite, the willingness to go against the grain and fight battles most people wouldn’t dream of.
But what struck me most was what not to do along the way(won’t spoil it for you watch the series it’s damn good) how I also need to be humble to build something lasting. Something bigger than myself.
I’ve got ideas brewing. Once it’s ready, you’ll read it here first. These newsletters are turning into my public diary on “How to Become a Millionaire.”
Not bad huh?
How To Learn 10x Faster
I used to absorb information like a sponge. In school, in college, I’d learn things quickly and they’d stick. But somewhere along the way between Instagram, reels, and the constant chase for dopamine I lost that superpower.
Here’s the thing I’ve realized: Most of us are using learning as a form of productive procrastination.
We watch videos, read books, take courses... and feel accomplished. But are we implementing any of it?
Learning without application is just mental entertainment(Wanted to use the M word but keeping it sophisticated).
Here’s a small takeaway how I am progressing
Map out a 10-year vision. Where I want to be?
Break it down into a 1-year mission. What’s my next milestone?
Reverse engineer my daily habits. Morning, afternoon, evening, night analyse what I am doing, how I feel about it.
Then Design “ideal self” behaviour. (ChatGPT helped me with this it mapped out everything habits, speech, body structure, what clothes they prefer, how is he allocating time)
Then Pick one project that aligns with my goal. Start building it and learning along the way when I hit a wall/block.
Use AI as leverage, eg: Feed your job description to ChatGPT and ask for project ideas based on it. Then build. Implement. Iterate.
If you need more details here is the breakdown video
Which then brings me to why To-lists are massive failure - Was listening to a podcast between Ali Abdaal and Steven Bartlett
Here’s what I realised, implemented and is helping me
The To-Do List Problem
I have noticed that these lists just keep growing man, never ends.
Things have dramatically improved after implementing the things from the podcast.
Fix: The Daily Highlight
Choose ONE thing that absolutely must get done that day. Just one. Making it specific and meaningful. If everything else falls apart, this is my non-negotiable.
Just imagine completing 365 meaningful tasks in a year that all push toward my one big goal? That’s massive progress.
Next The Two-Minute Rule If something takes less than two minutes, not adding it to my list. Just do it right away. But also, dividing my day into “maker” blocks (deep, focused work) and “manager” blocks (emails, meetings, admin stuff).
Another banger - Time blocking
Example:
When I used to say “I want to go to learn data engineering” it never happened.
Then I just blocked an hour in my Calendar: “Weekly, 9 PM to 10 PM, I’m learning SQL joins and solving Med level Leetcode” 80% of time I do it.
Monday through Friday, I’m on autopilot with structure. But weekends? I wake up thinking I’ll batch shoot videos for YouTube and Instagram, write this newsletter... then suddenly it’s Sunday night and I’ve accomplished nothing.
Without time blocks in my calendar, my time just evaporates.
Compounding
Eg: It is like not brushing your teeth for a long time. It won’t hurt today, tomorrow, or even after weeks. But it will in a decade for sure, and then you’ll go like I should have done it while sitting with dentist.
The small things done (or not done) every day are shaping me.
Final Quote:
“Past version of me thought I’d be happy when I’ll be where I am right now, yet I am not fully satisfied because there’s a future version of me saying you’ll be happy when you get here. And it never stops! ”
Bottom line, it doesn’t mean to not have ambitions, but stopping and thinking oh wait. The younger Tanmay if he knew that he will be living abroad, using apple products, making content and at the same time be in the best shape. Well I guess he would have gone crazy. So, taking a step back reflecting upon what I have feeling content about it. And now moving on with satisfaction rather than fear of not achieving things. This one thing will reflect in work and bring me more opportunities.
Whenever you’re ready, here are some ways I can help you:
Moving abroad Consultation: If moving abroad is on your mind and you’re confused should you be taking that leap or need help with SOP tips, Loan payoff strategy. Then just book a 1:1 call with me and we can figure out things together with the WADM.
Quick Chat: If you are already abroad and facing issues with managing time, not knowing how to find a job, optimise LinkedIn, Resume or even write cold DMs. Then you can book a shorter duration call where we can have a discussion with actionable steps at the end of the call.
And if you fancy then watch a weekend in my life, living in Ireland
See you next week!
I’ll be talking about how to kill bad habits and unwanted desires
