Quarterly Goal Setting
Written on: 29th June 2025
Most of our disappointments… are just mismanaged expectations.
We set huge goals pay off the loan, build the business, get a six-pack, hit 50K subscribers and then wonder why we constantly feel like we’re behind.
Because all these goals are long running some take a year, some might take half a decade to achieve. And the way our minds have evolved to crave instant gratification because we have chosen battles that are ongoing for an eternity we get this feeling of dissatisfaction and that’s when we start to slack off from our goals.
But here’s the truth. They’re not projects. They’re journeys. And when that happens, progress often feels invisible. Hence we need to have checkpoints to confirm our win and most importantly celebrate them.
That’s when I got the idea wait hold on life is not a “sprint” it’s a “marathon”. The goal is to cross the finish line, not winning.
And like marathon enjoy the journey. There’s physical pain, emotional bursts, even hallucinations (if you’ve ran long enough, you know what I mean).
Enjoy those, be happy with the small water stations (aka Checkpoints) so you know okay you’re on the right track. Isn’t it?

Hopeful about the future
Last week, I was journaling after a mentally foggy day.
I asked myself “Why do I feel like nothing’s falling into place, even though I’m working hard?”
And you know what I had often romanticised the idea of becoming a millionaire (which btw only the 1.5% of the globe’s population are)
But here’s the kicker only 0.01% of people in the world finished a marathon.
Compare that with millionaires? I have ran one I mean if we run the numbers I am already in the top tiers isn’t it? I have already played and won this game of probability.
So technically, running a marathon puts you in a rarer bracket than being a millionaire.
Perspective, right?
Can’t get over this
Now with that mindset shift, let’s talk about the mid-year reset.
Two quarters down. Two to go.
If I ask you this, How many of your past Quarter’s goal you’ve achieved so far?
You’d either say
1. Don’t remember my quarterly goals, let alone making progress
2. Remember them, but didn’t make much progress
Either way it’s okay. I’ve been there too. Let’s fix it now.
Here’s my 3-part system but first, let me tell you where it came from. Back in January 2024, I was frustrated and burnt out. 2023 felt like a blur of missed goals and scattered efforts, and I remember thinking, “Maybe I’m not cut out for the things I want.”
Then I stumbled upon two game-changers: a workshop by Ali Abdaal and the book Manifest by Roxie Nafousi. That combo shifted everything. I started journaling deeply, aligning my goals with my values, and realized I didn’t need more motivation all I needed was structure.
Since then, things have changed: I ran a half marathon, grew my YouTube to 5K+, cracked a promotion, and started building what might become my biggest bet yet.
Here’s the exact system that helped me do it step by step.
Step 1: Reflect
Grab a pen, journal, and a quiet space.
Divide your life into two parts: Work and Life.
Answer these four questions for both:
What worked last quarter?
What didn’t work?
What energized me the most?
What drained me the most?
Example from me:
I ran a half marathon. Got 5K subs on YouTube. Cracked an internal promotion.
But I also slacked on cooking, got a neck sprain, and spent too much on takeaways. Noted.
Step 2: Plan (Main Quests + Side Quests)
Don’t try to fix everything.
Choose 1 main quest for work, and 1 main quest for life.
Be precise. Not “I want to work out more.”
Instead: “Go to gym 3x/week. Log 36 sessions by September 30.”
My main quests this quarter?
→ Work: Launch my “Moving Abroad” course + build a community.
→ Life: Hire a personal trainer and follow their plan consistently.
Then pick 2/3 side quests, goals that are supportive but secondary.
Mine include learning Databricks, running weekly, streamlining YouTube + newsletter.
Set them. Schedule them. Track them.
BONUS: How to find out that 1 goal you want to work on? Answer these
In Work/ Life, what’s the single most important goal or project for you to accomplish in the next 3 months?
That’s going to be your main quest.
What’s the 1 thing, if accomplished, would move the needle the absolute most?
If you fast forward 3 months, what’s the one accomplishment that would make you most proud of?
What’s the one thing that would make everything else easier or unnecessary?
What’s the one thing that you’ve been postponing but know would be transformative if you tackled it?
“If I spent the first 2 hours of my work day purely dedicated to X, it would have an enormous impact for my work”
Answer the same for Work and Life.
For example:
Quest for work
Step 3: Execute
This is where most people stumble.
They plan beautifully, but fall short on action.
Here’s what works for me:
- Use 3-2-1 or 2-minute rule to beat procrastination
- Time-block key hours: eg. 11am–1pm for course building, 5pm–6pm for upskilling
- Turn off dopamine leaks Opal app works wonders for blocking distractions
- At night, remove all stimulation: phone off, no screen, only Kindle or calm audio
And finally, Here’s what I’m excited about:
By September 30th, I’ll have a live course, a growing community, a shredded body, and a sharper jawline.
Not because I’ll manifest it blindly. But because I’ll plan, track, and ship.
Quest for life
If you’ve read till here, tell me.
